The Sitting Man

submitted by -

My Story: My father told me this story a few years ago. When he was 12 or 13, he was out with his older brother and his brothers friends. It was getting dark and they knew they should have been home hours ago. They all decided to take a quicker route home, through the Red Lane.

When they came out the other end of the Red Lane, they saw a man sitting on a nearby wall. He looked like a tramp, aged 50 to 60. He was wearing a long brown coat with big brown boots. He had long scraggly brown hair with a long beard. For a laugh one of the older boys asked the man the time. The man looked at his watch and answered eerily "10 to 10". The boys could either go straight forward up the hill which would have taken them 10 minutes running but they decided to go down through the local park and through the fields which would take them just 5 minutues running. The route they took (through the park and field) made them come out opposite the boys house who asked him the time. They ran very quickly because they were late and also freaked out by the man. When they came out, opposite the boys house, the man was sitting on his doorstep! He looked at his watch and said eerily "5 to 10". The boys ran for their lives while the man sat there laughing at them.

Did this man, aged 50 to 60 run a longer route quicker than the gang of boys? I doubt it, and even if he did how did he know which house the boy lived in. There were only 2 ways to get to the boys house. A long way and a short way. He certainly didn't go the short way because the boys would have seen him and he couldn't have gone the long way because it would have taken him too long. Decide for yoursleves what happened.....
