It's 6:00 a.m., my mother wakes me up to face a very scary new experience. My first day of high school! The stories that were in mind about the place, had nothing to do with ghosts, but were scary all the same. Older students giving the "freshman" swirlies, getting dumped into a garbage can....you know, the regular high school agenda.
My first hour of school....I expected the worst; I had no idea. The worst that I was expecting had little to do with the worst that I received. I didn't realize that the school grounds had a haunting, and evil past.
The story that I will tell for this entry is one that is very common in my home town. My friend Shawn and I, just famous. From the moment that Shawn and I arrived, the upper-classmen told us of strange occurrences that happened on campus at the beginning of the year: lockers slamming, noises, apparitions...
Anyway, he and I wrote everything off as scare tactics from the older kids. Trouble, however reared its ugly head when Shawn talked me into staying after school with him to try out for basketball. Shawn tried out and didn't make the team. He was needless to say, upset. So, I tried to console him, so we could leave. He was ready to go, but he had to get his books out of his locker, first. So, we climbed the stairs of the dark hallway, remembering the stories we were told, earlier that day. As we got to the top, rounded the corner, and got to the lockers, we noticed that all the lockers were open (even Shawns). Shawn simply stated, "huh".
Shawn's locker was on the first row, and he reached in and got his books. I decide that I wanted to check my locker, since all of the others were open. So, Shawn slammed his locker shut. We walked toward my locker.......Each locker we walked by slammed in turn. That is when we decide to run. Still, the speed of the lockers slamming, met us stride for stride. I don't need to tell you that I didn't stop to check on my locker. We ran like bat's out of....well you know.
At that time, we realized that there was something to the claims that we kept hearing. So, we decided to check up on the history of that part of town. We found that in the early 1800's, settlers of the county had an epidemic of the cholera...sometimes called the black death. A mass grave was used to bury the victims, with a small marker as a memorial. Later, throughout time, the marker was lost, and something got built over the area....can you guess it kids? The high school.
So, could my story be about 200 polterguists, or some other explanation? You decide. I'll get to the other stories at another session.
