Serpent Sisters
Ghost

submitted by Ryan

The transition of moving a family from a big city (Boston, Mass), to a small Ohio town, is not easily done nor appreciated. However, this did happen to me when I was ten years old along with my seven year old brother, my 5 year old sister, and my parents. My father was relocated to cincinnati for his job and was given the family farm he grew up on as a child. The only difficult thing was that he had inherited the farm 2 years before with the sudden death of my grandma and the upkeep was very poor, so lots of work needed done. It was approximately 300 acres that was not going to be farmed, just lived on, which made the job much easier.

I had to come to the realization that since there were few kids in the neighborhood, I would be spending alot of time with my ciblings, this did not thrill me. I was an adventurous boy as was my brother, and we often found ourselves running through the woods playing games with eachother. On a warm summer day, however, life as we knew it would not be the same for anyone in our family. It started out as a very normal day, with dad at work and mom making sure our breakfast plates were cleared before we went out for our daily excipades. My brother and I were antsy as usual and went on our way walking to the woods, which began about 2 football fields from the back yard.

We walked for several minutes looking for nothing, as usual, just being curious. To the left of us there was a moaning sound which froze us immideately with our heads in the direction of the sound. Without a word we began moving towards the moan we heard simutanously, as if we were tranced. We continued walking and grew less fearful, because the sound didnt return, so we figured it must be an animal. As our fears began to deminish, we heard laughing and several people walking around, but we saw nothing. The sound was more intense and continuous this time, and we both laid down behind a large log on the ground, peering over occasionally to see if soemthing appeared.

The sound remained after 5 minutes so we decided it would be a good idea to slowly turn around and go back to the house. I got up first, being the older, protective brother and my brother immideately followed. We began walikng slow then faster for about 20 paces, when I glanced over my shoulder and froze in fear. I did not notice what my brother was doing at the time, I was too much in shock. At almost the exact spot where we laid behind the log, there was a run-down log house with three old ladies peering at up. Two were looking out the window and one was standing under the door frame with the door opened outward. When I saw them the sound of laughing stopped and total silence was the only thing that I heard for what seemed like hours. I was stunned with fear and could not move, as was my brother, and we both described it as painfully still. After what was only a few seconds in reality, I began to run as fast as I could go back to the house, whit no doubt that my brother was behind me from the extra set of foot steps I heard running close behind. When we returned to the house, we were both frantically crying to our mother, who didn't know what to take of the story because the closest neighbor was a mile or so away from us. She made us stay in the house for the rest of the day and watch tv, which we did. My father came home early when he heard this from my mother, who called him, and had us take him the the exact spot where we were.

He had his shotgun with him and we were off, it was only 3:00 pm, so daylight was still strong as we entered the woods. As we carefully approached the place where it happend, silence fell again and any little sound was enough to make a heart stop. I took him to the exact spot and described exactly what had happend and showed him the log that we hid by, and showed him the point where we saw the house and the ladies. He was furious at us and told us we were grounded for making him come home early from work for nothing. After several minutes of us not convincing my dad, we were headed back, when we heard hissing and ratteling leaves.

All of us turned around quickly to see three giant snakes sliding from under the log we laid by. Nothing was said the rest of the day about this and me and my brother went to bed with puzzeling thoughts going through our minds. I was woke early next morning by the scream of my mother from her room which of course caused me to run to see what was the matter. I saw my father holding my mother in the corner by the window as she screamed frantically. I ran to the window and looked out to see the same giant snakes from the day before hung on my mother's clothes line split open, inside out.

No one can explain what happened that day, but I know what I saw and will never forget it. Nothing happend ever again and investigations showed no species of snake like the ones found lived in north america. Think of it as you will, with an open mind!
