I Have A Rendezvous With Ruth

I have a rendezvous with Ruth
On some smooth floor where dancers sway
When Swing comes 'round with ending day
And soulful music fills the room.

I have a rendezvous with Ruth
When Swing casts blues away and gloom.
It may be she shall take my hand
And lead me into her fair land
And close her eyes to feel, in truth;
It may be she shall pass me by.

I have a rendezvous with Ruth
Beneath some foggy city sky,
When Swing comes 'round with silent wing
And gather gorgeous doves to sing.

God knows 'twere better to be bound,
Conversed in voices sweet and sage,
Where love is warm and ever found
Despite an ending song or youth,
Where eyes with passion shine sincere...

But, I've a rendezvous with Ruth
At daybreak on some sunlit stage,
When Swing glides south again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.
