He took my pride for breakfast,
Stole my love for lunch,
Finished off my strength for supper,
And left me only with myself for dessert.
He had unreadable eyes that made me uneasy.
Unable to move while they roamed inside
my body, mind and soul.
His hands knew how to calm my fears.
And he laid my soul on the feathers
Of heaven-fallen angels he'd loved before.
And he spoke practiced words
From a lifetime of being in my heart,
While he carried the keys to every lock
I had ever placed upon my will.
He was a man I used to love like no other.
One that still lingers through my dreams.
A man I'll always fear to meet again.
For if he shows up for dessert
...I'll lose myself as well.
