God made a promise to you and me,
And a gift He gave for all to see.
A token created by His own hand,
The pattern formed by His command.
He took the spectrum's myriad hues,
Much more than yellows, reds, and blues,
He bent them into concentric form;
By refracted sunlight, glowing warm,
Into raindrops, or heaven's mist,
He called His rainbow to exist.
At times, this multicolored array,
Shines in a cloud at close of day.
It wasn't put there for a pot of gold,
Or bluebirds, as a song has told.
It's God's promise to us—His true worth,
Water, again, won't destroy our earth!
His rainbow covenant is for you and me
And endless generations to see.
Vibrant or muted colors glowing
Remember our God, when rainbows are showing.
