Love

LOVE is a feeling,
given birth from within.
Many kinds and degrees,
the subject we begin.

There is LOVE of another,
of family or friend.
LOVE of God, of material things,
of these that we tend.

In degrees as with temperature,
from warm onto hot.
Growing in fever,
from little to a lot.

It manifests itself,
as an attachment of heart.
Stemming from the beholder,
to the recipient worlds apart.

The LOVE of a hobby,
a movie or a book.
To the LOVE of a lover,
in a discreet hideaway nook.

It may but smolder,
as a glowing coal.
Or it may radiate forth,
from the depths of the soul.

From the feelings of attachment,
to an expression of deep.
The joys of affection and devotion,
the memories that we keep.

Sometimes expressed,
as an outburst in view.
An embrace, a caress, a kiss,
shared by a loving two.

Still with others,
as with man and wife.
A feeling of bond,
that holds them for life.

LOVE is a subject,
we could long ponder here.
But to give and to receive,
that to which life is dear.
