Mom's New Home

The children were smiling as they took her there:
A home for the aged where she’d get good care.
Her apartment was small, but she’d have to make do
She’d have her mementos, her needs would be few.

They kissed her goodbye and left with a smile.
Goodbye, Mom, they said. We’ll be back in a while.
She turned away, smiling, so tears wouldn’t show,
With no one to talk to and no place to go.

Weeks drifted by, with a call now and then.
We’ll see you soon, Mom, we just don’t know when.
Their lives are so busy with no time to spare.
We’ll visit Mom soon but she’s getting good care.
