Poem

My Morning Walk

I exit from my house every morning
The air smells so fresh to me
And I thrill with anticipation
Of all the things I will see

I see an old lady so feeble
No longer can she walk alone
But by pushing her wheelchair before her
She manages to walk round the Home

I see an old gentleman sitting
I stop for a moment to say
I am glad to see you this morning
I hope you will have a good day

I see the flag high on its standard
To tell if its windy or calm
I stoop to pick up an earthworm
So wiggly it tickles my palm

I see all the trees tall and stately
Adorned with the beauty of Spring
The grass and the flowers around me
Springs freshness is on everything

I speak to a neighbor in his garden
Your garden is planted I see
You have a nice plot and he answers
Well it is small but enough for me.

I see a squirrel crossing my pathway
Hello! I say. How are you?
But he scrambles up a tree, throws me a leaf
And waves his tail at me too.

I pass by a house where there's sadness
And sadness pervades the air
For the lawn-swing sits there sad and empty
The occupant no more will be there.

I see my home in the distance
And so I must be on my way
I gaze at the blue sky above me
And thank God I can walk today.
