Poem

Loneliness

Have you experienced loneliness, rejection and despair;
The certain knowledge you're alone, that life is so unfair?
Have you been so depressed you feel your life's come to an end?
Do you know what it's like to have no-one to call a friend?

Have you felt weak and helpless, with no-one to ask for aid?
Have you felt that the good you've done will never be repaid?
Have you known life's futility, a dirge your only song?
Do you feel that the best you do will always end up wrong?

Now some will say that loneliness is being all alone,
But others will find solace when they spend time on their own.
Yet others will be lonely even though they're in a crowd,
Despondency and misery surrounds them like a cloud!

Is this what you call loneliness? Is this what you endure?
Is this the sickness of your life, with little hope of cure?
Is loneliness atonement for some dire and wilful deeds?
Is this how you repent your sins before your life proceeds?

You're not alone if you should say that you have felt this way;
So many people wake to see another lonely day,
But you don't need to suffer as a member of this club!
Just leave the loneliness of life to old Beelzebub!

Now shed the gloomy garments; greys and blacks you choose to wear
And don the joyful colors that the happy people wear.
Be sure you always wear a friendly smile upon your face
And grasp all those around you in a welcoming embrace.

For loneliness is self imposed, it's just a state of mind.
There always is companionship for you to seek and find.
It may be in a loving pet, it may be in a book,
But you need never be alone, if you will only look!
