Poem

At the Water's Edge

(a pantoum)

He hunches at the water's edge.
Assessing secrets of the deep,
he makes a monumental pledge
in advance, before he yields to weep.

Assessing secrets of the deep
he sees the mighty bear lies cold
in advance, before he yields to weep
in impotence. His fate untold.

He sees the mighty bear lies cold
reposing in an iron clad box
in impotence, his fate untold
susceptable to the ravenous fox.

Reposing in an iron clad box,
a tear of salty taste now falls.
Susceptable to the ravenous fox,
indignant moms see past the walls.

A tear of salty taste now falls.
He makes a monumental pledge.
Indignant moms see past the walls.
He hunches at the water's edge.
